Yesterday, at 8.30 pm, after having sailed non-stop for more than 108 hours with no communications with the mainland, the Mini 6.50 Intermatica ITA-520, sailed by Andrea Pendibene, from Viareggio, and by Remi Fermin, from France, crossed the finishing line of the fifth edition of the Italian Grand Prix Mini 6.50, coming first in the production class. Iacopini and Tosi, aboard Umpa Umpa finished second after a time lag of one hour and a half, followed by Life Italia (Rulz – Altadil). Winning the prototype class were Andrea Caracci and J. Reichers on Marina di Loano–ITA 756.
The race, organized by Yacht Club Italiano started in Genoa at 12 am on 16 April, with a fleet of 28 Mini 6.50s that battled it out over a distance of 540 miles (Genoa, La Caletta – along the eastern coast of Sardinia-Giannutri, Genoa.)
“It was a very difficult race and I’m particularly pleased to have won again like last year”, declared Andrea Perdibene after berthing. “After the start, we sailed downwind from Genoa to La Caletta, in Sardinia, where we finished first in our class. From La Caletta to Giannutri, we continued to sail on a reach, with no difficulty. But off Giannutri, because of the almost complete lack of wind, the fleet bunched up and a new race practically began – a very tactical one, because of light winds. Our turning point came at the height of Mount Portofino, where we made a different decision to our opponents and sailed in the gulf. This choice paid off and allowed us to break away from the rest of the fleet, which stayed out to sea, where the wind was even lighter than in the gulf. I have to thank the Navimeteo team and Gianfranco Meggiorin, in particular, for the valuable and timely information provided before the start, which proved so critical in our achieving this result. Everything went very well with Remi Fermin, who shared the ups and downs of this race with me. It was the first time we had raced together and we got along very well from the very beginning. I’m now returning to France to complete preparations for the Transat 6.50, starting next September 25 from La Rochelle, France, which is the final goal of two years’ work.
Andrea Pendibene’s next race will be the Solo Crono race, scheduled for May 27 at Lorient, in France. From June 16 to 24, the yachtsman from Viareggio will be taking part in the challenging Mini Fastnet race, in the difficult waters of the North Atlantic ocean.Dopo piu’ di 108 ore di navigazione senza sosta e senza comunicazioni con la terra ferma, ieri alle 20.30 il Mini 6.50 Intermatica ITA-520, con a bordo il viareggino Andrea Pendibene e il francese Remi Fermin, ha tagliato il traguardo della quinta edizione del Gran Premio d’Italia Mini 6.50 al primo posto della classifica riservata alle imbarcazioni di serie. Secondi con un’ora e mezzo circa di distacco Umpa Umpa di Iacopini-Tosi, e al terzo Life Italia (Rulz – Altadil). La vittoria nella categoria prototipi è andata invece ad Andrea Caracci e J. Reichers su Marina di Loano–ITA 756.
La regata, organizzata dallo Yacht Club Italiano e partita da Genova alle ore 12.00 dello scorso 16 Aprile, ha visto partecipare una flotta di 28 Mini 6.50 che si sono dati battaglia su un percorso di 540 miglia (Genova, La Caletta – sulla costa Est della Sardegna- Giannutri, Genova).
Andrea Pendibene appena sceso in banchina ha dichiarato: “E’ stata una regata molto difficile e sono particolarmente soddisfatto di aver confermato il primato dello scorso anno. Abbiamo navigato in poppa da Genova dopo la partenza fino a La Caletta, in Sardegna, dove siamo transitati al primo posto nella nostra classifica. Da La Caletta fino a Giannutri abbiamo regatato ancora con vento al lasco e senza particolari problemi, ma all’altezza di Giannutri a causa del calo pressoché totale del vento, la flotta si è ricompattata e praticamente da li è cominciata una nuova regata, molto tattica sempre a causa del vento leggero. La svolta per noi è arrivata all’altezza del monte di Portofino, dove abbiamo fatto una scelta opposta ai nostri avversari navigando nel golfo. Questa opzione ha pagato e ci ha permesso di sganciarci dal resto della flotta che era rimasta più a largo e con meno vento di noi. Devo ringraziare tutto il team di Navimeteo e Gianfranco Meggiorin, in particolare, per le preziose e puntuali informazioni che ci hanno fornito prima della partenza e che si sono rivelate fondamentali per ottenere questo risultato. Con Remi Fermin, che ha condiviso con me oneri e onori di questa regata, è andato tutto molto bene. Era la prima volta che regatavamo insieme e abbiamo raggiunto subito un ottimo affiatamento. Ora torno in Francia per completare il programma di preparazione alla Transat 6.50 che partirà da la Rochelle in Francia il prossimo 25 settembre, che rappresenta l’obiettivo finale di due anni di lavoro.
Il prossimo impegno agonistico di Andrea Pendibene sarà la Solo Crono il 27 maggio a Lorient, in Francia.Dal 16 al 24 giugno l’atleta viareggino parteciperà al Mini Fastnet, l’impegnativa regata che si svolgerà nelle difficili acque del Nord Atlantico.
