Calpe (Spain), May 7: The VIII Open de Espana, the Grade 1 match race organized by Real Club Nautico de Calpe and sailed in Tom Max 28 type yachts, ended today, with winds over 20 knots. Simone Ferrarese finished fourth behind Williams (England) who classified first, followed by Pierre-Antoine Morvan (France) with third place going to Philip Robertson (New Zealand), who are ranked respectively fifth, eighth and ninth in the world for this class.
The Ferrarese Racing Team gave a great performance in the Round Robin, with six major victories including those against such first class match racing competitors as France’s Bertrand Pacé, former match race world champion and veteran of the America’s Cup; Sweden’s Björn Hansen, sixth in the world rankings, and Portugal’s Álvaro Marinho, 470 class champion, excluding the three teams from the semi-finals.
“All in all, we are satisfied with the result”, states Simone Ferrarese over the phone. “We managed several difficult wins leaving top international match race names behind us. Pierre-Antoine Morvan, who challenged us in the semi-finals, is very good in strong winds and, given today’s conditions, it was very difficult to keep ahead of him.
My team did a great job, as usual, and we are now looking ahead to next month’s challenge in Russia.
The next appointment for the Ferrarese Racing Team will be the Sails of White Nights in Saint Petersburg, scheduled for June 1-4 .

Il Ferrarese Racing Team ha disputato un ottimo Round Robin con sei vittorie importanti tra cui quelle contro fuoriclasse del match race come il francese Bertrand Pacé, ex campione del mondo di match race e veterano dell’America’s Cup, lo svedese Björn Hansen sesto nella ranking list mondiale e il portoghese Álvaro Marinho, olimpionico di 470, escludendo i tre team dalle semifinali.

Pierre-Antoine Morvan, che ci ha sfidato in semifinale è molto forte con vento sostenuto e, viste le condizioni di oggi, era davvero difficile riuscire a stargli davanti.
Il mio equipaggio ha fatto un ottimo lavoro come sempre e ora guardiamo alla sfida del prossimo mese in Russia.”
Il prossimo impegno per il Ferrarese Racing Team sarà la Sails of White Nights a San Pietroburgo, in calendario dal 1 al 4 giugno.
